SID Update

After several ‘false dawns’ over the last few months we have reinstalled the SID in the same position on the High Street as previously. The device is now starting a four week trial period, hopefully leading to a final purchase of our own device.

If the trial is successful we will begin to move the sign around a number of different places in the village as agreed with SCC Highways. At this stage all locations will be on the A357 and cover the are from the original Bowden Road post (previously used when SCC were involved), through the High Street, Church Hill and Slades Hill to the original Tower Hill post (again previously used by SCC). Provision has been made to monitor traffic in both directions, and the positions have been chosen as those having the greatest volume of traffic travelling at speed through the village, evidenced by previous speed watch activity.

Once the trial has been completed we will work with the supplier to set up each chosen site so that we get the most reliable data which we will publish regularly on this website. SCC Highways will also be relocating one existing post and positioning two new posts covering areas where we believe we have traffic travelling at unnecessarily high speeds – we do not know yet when this can be scheduled.

Please help us try to reduce the speed of traffic in the village by travelling at the speed limits, which are clearly signposted throughout the village, and set an example to those who are just travelling through our village. If we are not successful in changing the driving behaviour of some drivers a move back to physical traffic calming cannot be excluded.
