West Side
Works were commenced on 17th April 2023 by Somerset Council (SC) as per the HA1980 S167 notice served, the work carried out by SC is considered to be work required to satisfy temporary measures following the options survey that SC commissioned and as per the HA1980 S167 served. The work includes temporary stabilisation of the failed section of wall by concrete legato blocks and some localised re-pointing to sections where the wall was considered to be compromised (ref SC commissioned options survey). The legato blocks have caused the available footway to be reduced in width to the absolute minimum of 1 meter where they have been placed, which is the lowest limits of acceptability of the Safety at Streetworks and Roadworks guidance.
I am aware that the legal disputes continue and once these have been resolved then SC will discuss the permanent works that will be required with those relevant parties. It is expected that the works carried out by SC will be completed by 17:00 on Friday 5th May 2023 and on completion the temporary traffic management will be removed.
East Side
The ownership of this wall is still a matter being considered by Somerset Council (SC) legal services; I am aware that the residents adj this wall have provided further information recently which is currently being reviewed by SC legal services. SC legal services will provide a reply to them in due course.
Minor pointing repairs were carried out to the wall where some stones had slipped out and to facilitate the removal of the temporary traffic management as per details provided for 11th April 2023 update.
Road Surface
The requirement for resurfacing on a submission list for works post April 2024. In the meantime, we will be carrying out some minor repair/patching to the areas of deterioration which I expect to be within the next 3 months.
It may be that other funding for resurfacing becomes available, Pre Apr 2024, and we await that opportunity to bring the proposed resurfacing forward.
