Notification was given to the Parish Council on Friday 28th October that Somerset Highways plan to remove Build Out 4 in the High Street on 16th and 17th November. The road will be closed during the day to allow for the work to be carried out.
The Parish Council has been attempting to get modifications implemented since the Traffic Calming project was completed in 2015. In August this year we were presented with a proposal for the removal of Build Out 4. Amongst the things we wanted to achieve was to ensure the cottages (Numbers 6 and 8) and pedestrians retained sufficient protection from vehicles, motorcycles and bicycles passing close to the buildings. Additionally we wished to create sufficient room for HGV’s to pass each other in a wider part of the road and removing the give way and congestion issue.
The proposal we received in August in its current form does not, in our view do that.
We have enlisted the help of our County Councillors (Sarah Dyke and Nicola Clark) and written to Somerset Highway asking for additional modifications to be incorporated into the plan to remove the Build Out which we think will improve the outcome.
As a Parish Council we do not have the power to prevent Somerset Highways making modifications to the road network as they see fit but please be assured we have and will continue to try to influence them
